In the language of the Yorta Yorta people kalinya means good, beautiful and honest – values that Jirra Lulla Harvey is determined to embed into all her business dealings. The Koorie woman was raised by a fiercely creative and political family, and grew up surrounded by stories of love, passion and care for community. In this inspiring conversation, Jirra shares an introduction to her super exciting new project, Kalinya Retreats – retreats for indigenous entrepreneurs and friends, to come together, and talk business under the stars.
The retreats are a culmination of everything I love — beauty, adventure, connection and laughter. Aboriginal entrepreneurs exist at the intersection of big conversations — community-based collectivism and capitalist individualism, distributive finance and profitability, and what is sacred and private or what is for public consumption. These conversations can’t be had over networking drinks. We need space to talk. And we need places to come together in joy and softness.
